The other adverts

The fifth advert

Rowntree only made four adverts, so we never got to see the fifth advert onscreen. However, there's a clue to its content in the scroll in the fourth advert.

What does the text mean? Well, we have no way to tell what the symbols stand for, or even what language it's in. It's also difficult to make out the symbols because of the poor quality of the video. But as luck would have it, the full scroll was printed in the press campaign...

...along with a cipher!

The decoded message says:

Men will come from this world and others in search of the tree with five fruits, but she will elude them, until one day a boy shall be sent by a birdman across the river. He shall overcome his first great adversary in this very cave, without weapons, standing where you are now reading these words. After crossing the mountains, he will discover five paths and will not know which to take. The true path to the Rowntree will be one he must take alone.

So in the fifth advert, Kit probably would have encountered five paths. He would have had to choose between them, like Indiana Jones trying to decide on the true holy grail. The path would have been one "he must take alone", which implies he would have said goodbye to Loreth in this advert. (Good riddance.)

The sixth, seventh and eighth adverts

When I contacted Alastair Ross via Twitter, he said:

We had written another four episodes to follow on from the initial campaign, where Kit met new characters who helped him get closer to the elusive tree.

So we know there were at least four more episodes planned, as well as new characters.

The final advert

Alastair Ross also told me:

I think one of the endings we thought of involved Kit reaching his final destination - a valley full of fruit orchards. He was then puzzled as there were individual trees but not one that bore five different fruits. However when you saw the valley from the air, five different rivers joined to form one large river. In between each river was an orchard. So it looked like a giant tree. In essence the Rowntree was a place shaped like a tree, rather than one single tree.

So now we know how the adverts might have ended: with an aerial shot of several orchards shaped like a giant tree. Therefore, in my mind at least, the search for the Rowntree is finally over, and poor Kit can rest in peace. My brother and I celebrated with a victory cheer next to a print-out of Kit’s face.

We also attached a sign that says, "THE SEARCH FOR THE ROWNTREE IS OVER! 16/4/2016". (Note that this is LEGAL PROOF that I found the Rowntree first. Therefore, the Rowntree is legally MINE.)
